HALE — High-Altitude Long-Endurance UAV
Control and monitoring systems for a high-altitude long-endurance UAV with a 21-metre wingspan.
A high-altitude long-endurance UAV has to stay aloft for a long time, far from its operators, on very little power. That puts unusual weight on the monitoring and control chain: if you cannot see the aircraft’s state reliably, you cannot fly it.
At CentrUMS (Center for Unmanned System Studies) at ITB, I implemented the control and monitoring system for a HALE UAV with a 21-metre wingspan — waypoint tracking, real-time telemetry and video streaming, and antenna tracking to keep the link alive at range. The team conducted several flight tests over the course of the project.
